The Art of Peking Opera

Cultural Introduction

Peking Opera is one of the most representative forms of traditional Chinese performing arts, originating in the Qing Dynasty. It integrates singing, speech, acting, and acrobatics into a highly stylized performance. Its music is mainly based on the Xipi and Erhuang melodies, while roles are divided into Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou, each with distinct characteristics. Elaborate facial makeup and ornate costumes vividly convey character and status. As a cultural treasure, Peking Opera embodies rich historical heritage and the unique aesthetics of Chinese theatre.
